It has been two years since No Use For A Name-frontman Tony Sly passed away at the age of 41. A major blow to the punk rock world, and of course his family and friends. Today we remember Anthony Sly.
Next to fronting No Use For A Name (NUFAN), we remember Sly as solo artist, as well as a part of Scorpios with Joey Cape, Jon Snodgrass and Brian Wahlstrom. That Sly will not be forgotten, is one thing that is certain.
Scorpios went on tour in 2013 through Europe, and performed at a packed Acoustic Stage at Groezrock. This was quite an emotional performance, as you can see in the video below. Tim McIlrath (Rise Against) came on stage to sing “For Fiona” too.
Then on October 29, 2013, Fat Wreck Chords released The Songs Of Tony Sly: A Tribute, with 33 artists covering Sly/NUFAN songs. All profits go to the Tony Sly Memorial Fund.
Whilst on tour with Me First and the Gimme Gimmes in Europe in February and March, Old Man Markley performs a set of covers, including their cover of NUFAN’s “Feel Good Song of the Year”.
On Groezrock 2014, NOFX played their 1994 album “Punk In Drublic” in it’s entirety, but finished their set with their cover of “The Shortest Pier”.
Today marks the date of two years without Tony Sly in our midst. He still is missed and will not be forgotten. Tony, rest in peace.
